BIO:
Since the moment of conception it was predetermined that Kenya Thomas would be something great. At the age of 3 Kenya began modeling in ads for both JC Penny and AM&A’s department stores. Throughout her adolescent and teenage years; Kenya remained active in modeling and pageants. At the age of 21, she joined the Def Jam Recordings Street Team based on her brothers’ suggestion.
Very intrigued by the entertainment industry she hustled hard and snatched the attention of the marketing director for Upstate New York. Proven hard work, dedication and eagerness to learn landed her as assistant marketing director for Upstate New York. She devised a high school street team; recruited members and executed innovative marketing and promotions campaigns for Def Jam Recordings artists, from Jay-Z’s Roc The Mic Tour to Ludacris’s Chicken & Beer album, Kenya’s drive for being illustrious has helped to boost both album sales and awareness of the abovementioned multi-platinum artists and moguls in their initial stages.
At the age of 23, Kenya and longtime friend Simone decided to go into business together and formed Urban Envy Marketing & Promotions. Urban Envy’s very first client was Mad Soul Clothing, Co. Kenya successfully executed fashion marketing campaigns and thus branded Mad Soul, she convinced popular stores to purchase and sell Mad Soul. Soon after this, Urban Envy held Eye Candy Exposhion; model expo and fashion show. Mad Soul was showcased, as well as, Johnny Handsome/Johnny Girl and Vone’ Fashion. Urban Envy was well on its way to becoming the most noted and efficient entertainment company in Buffalo, NY to date. Not too long after the successful show; Kenya met Danny “Big Tree” Anderson, whom took Kenya under his wing and showed her the ropes from the inside rather than a distance.
At that point with the advice of Big Tree, Kenya decided to go ahead and begin a full-fledge model management company. As Kenya tells the story:
“One day Urban Envy Model Management was just an idea. The next day I took 2 models to New York City, Big Tree introduced me to a few people; and by the 3rd day my girls were in Juelz Santana’s video for Mic Check and shooting photos with the talented John Ricard, while I was meeting with Roc Brands: Rocawear, State Property and Pro Keds, as well as, Source Mag. I mean it all happened so fast, but for the most part I wasn’t afraid to jump in head first and pay my dues… Literally!”
So it’s no wonder that her management/consulting resume includes: Akira Torii, Leilani Burkhead, Roxsi Robles and booking and consulting for SummerBunnies.com models. Her client list includes the following artists videos and magazines: T.I., Juelz, Cam’Ron, Jim Jones, Fat Joe, John Legend, Yung Dro, XXL Magazine, King Magazine, YRB Magazine, Don Diva, Feds, IB Concepts Magazine, Indie Street Magazine – to name a few.
Most recently Kenya moved to New York City and is currently New York Correspondent and host on Official Heat, a music show which airs Upstate New York and Southern Ontario/Toronto Canada; all while being personal Assistant to Grammy Award winning song-writer/Artist Sauce Money who penned the hit single "I'll Be Missing You" for Sean "Diddy" Combs, as well as, NYC’s Hot 97/Heavy Hitter Dj Absolut. Most people wonder how Kenya finds time to sleep and this is what she says:
“I’m such an insomniac… First I made them envy me. Now I’m giving them MO Heat(Miss Official Heat); not to mention being DJ Absolut’s personal assistant… So that’s Absolut Heat! I mean like everyday is like Christmas Eve to me. On Christmas Eve as a child I use to be anxious to see my gifts the next day. I’m so anxious to know what the next day has in store for me. I’m so ready to make my mark on this entertainment industry in some way and I can not sleep until my mark is x’d in red! I previously played the background and had to live my success through the models I managed. But life is short, although I have had some short comings, road blocks and blew a lot of money on Urban Envy Model Management I don’t regret a moment of it! Like J said in order to survive you got to learn to live with regrets… Plus I learned from Nas that today is the 1st day that begins forever… So everyday I go hard, cuz I’m never going home!”
