- The best damn jazz babe in town! -
Although she lives in western Germany, Miss Velma Kelly stands for old Hollywood glamour at its finest. It's her desire to see Hollywood's golden age and the pinup era of the forties and fifties brought back and done a certain way and it's her ultimate goal to keep the spirit of a time gone by alive.
- Retro returns -
"I started to revive interest in retro culture in my home country being the first retro and vintage styled model in Germany publishing my pictures on the web. Since then other fellow models have joined in on the fun keeping retro culture alive. I fully acknowledge today's photographers, artists and models all over the world who worked hard as pioneers in this genre and my heart, thanks and admiration goes out to every single one who's trying to keep it alive.
- From old Hollywood glamour to classic pin-up art -
I am especially fascinated with the old glamorous Hollywood. I would describe it as timeless, exciting and dramatic and I draw a lot of inspiration from old films and musicals of the twenties to early forties.
Beside old traditional black and white Hollywood themed photography, I pose for traditional pin-up tease art occasionally. There is something in the posed innocence of the forties and fifties that is so great. The colors, the stockings, the makeup, the hair, there's nothing around like it now. I may not have the perfect looks or the perfect body, but I am a perfectionist at heart, always trying to achieve the most authentical looking results I can with my photos.
- Professionally trained singer, actress and dancer -
I've been studying music, dance and drama professionally for several years. After graduating from the school for performing arts, I have appeared in numerous stage productions in Germany and perform jazz standards and chansons whenever I get the chance. I'm paying tribute to icons like the wonderful Marlene Dietrich. In addition to singing, I spend a lot of time recreating and choreographing traditional vaudeville acts, mostly in the style of legendary dancer, choreographer and director Bob Fosse whose work I admire very much. One of my biggest dreams for the future is to get the opportunity to perform my own vaudeville act in the U.S. of A. someday, helping to revive an almost lost treasure of American theatre and entertainment history.
- Retro culture meets the modern world... on the internet! -
My devotion from Hollywood glamour over classic pin-up art to traditional vaudeville is showcased on my website [VelmaKelly.com] which has been online since 2002. Despide of my skills as a performer, I decided to take a break from my stage career and took the chance to train as a graphic and web designer, another secret passion of mine. I'm programming, designing and maintaining my website all by myself.
I want to share everything I love with vintage lovers from all over the world and go with you on a journey back in time."
