About Me

I have been photographing ever since I received my Brownie Starmite as a child. I've worked in most camera and film formats including 35mm, medium format and large format, as well as pinhole and Polaroid. I've worked in the traditional black and white darkroom as well as with various alternative processes. At present I shoot primarily with Nikon digital SLR equipment. I am also proficient in Photoshop and Lightroom for retouching, photo enhancement, and photo restoration.

My specialty is studio portrait and model photography using professional lighting. I work with you in a cooperative effort to explore your individuality and define your unique presence as captured in the still image with the goal of realizing your vision. The output is a collection of color or black and white images (or both) for your portfolio, comp card, web presence or personal photos.

When not in the studio, I enjoy travel, landscape, still life and New York City people, event and location photography. I'm open to your suggestions for projects and enjoy the challenge of articulating your ideas into images. I would like work with couples, dancers and do some film production still work. I'm open to all suggestions!

My rates for a session vary depending on the nature of the shoot, basic web shots being at the low end and at the high end a full portfolio consisting of a variety of clothing, lighting and pose changes. Rates include file output on CD. Retouching and digital prints in limited number are extra. I will also suggest vendors where you can have high quality prints made from your digital files.

On a limited basis I also shoot Time for CD (TFCD)--CD to you in exchange for a signed model release (http://rmjfphoto.com/model_release_self-promo_2006.pdf) with reduced fees or no fee. NOTE: TFCD sessions require the same professionalism as paid or paying gigs, i.e., being on-time, 24-hr cancellation notice, providing phone number.

All work is done in my apartment studio in Brooklyn Heights, a short walk from 2, 3, 4, 5, N trains. Location shooting is also available. Most sessions are scheduled during the week, Monday-Thursday, daytime and evening; Friday mornings. I can also accommodate weekend requests.
